Nineteen year old Robert Pattinson grw up a typical British lad. He loved sports and hanging out with his pals. He's the first to admit that he never really considered acting as a career until his dad encouraged him to try it. It seems that Robert's proud papa thought his son would make a great actor, and Robert agreed to try it only after he noticed that there were lots of pretty girls in the local drama club! Robert also found out that he liked acting, and since he first stepped onto a stage, he's made his mark. He's appeared in the British movie Sword of Xanten and Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire - he also appeared in Reese Witherspoon's Vanity Fair, but his role ended up on the cutting room floor. Don't fear: That could never happen to Robert's role of Cedric Diggory in Goblet of Fire. Cedric is captain and seeker on the Hufflepuff House Quidditch team. Selected to represent Hogwarts in the Triwizard Tournament, he is killed on Voldemort's command. He was described by Professor Dumbledore as "a good and loyal friend, a hard worker, he valued fair play."
Movie Magic: If you hadn't become an actor, what career would you have followed?
Robert Pattinson: I have no idea. I think I would have just gone to university and would have kind of just done the average thing.
Movie Magic: Cedric is the resident hottie at Hogwarts - do you identify with him in any way?
Robert: (Laughs) I sort of identify with him in a couple of ways. Generally, I am quite pleasant. I think he is too, and I think that is one of the basic similarities. Let's see, I've got blond hair, I am relatively sporty. But, I think he is a better person than me.
Movie Magic: How is Harry Potter And The Goblte Of Fire different from the first three movies?
Robert: I think basically the characters have been pretty fully developed in the first three, and it's just going to take another turn into being more of a thriller. It's more boom, boom, boom, to the climax. I think it's a much faster paced, action-oriented film than the others. I think that it's a little bit darker, and they kill of key character. There's always going to be a little bit of a twist - killing someone is always a bit of a shock.
Movie Magic: Music is very important to you - what instruments do you play?
Robert: I have been playing the piano for my entire life - since I was three or four. And the guitar - I used to play classical guitar from when I was about five to 12 years of age. Then I didn't play guitar for like years. About four or give years ago, I got out the guitar again and just atarted playing blues and stuff. I am not very goot at the guitar, but I am all right. I am in a band in London as well.
Movie Magic: Whats the name of the band?
Robert: Bad Girl.
Movie Magic: How would you describe Bad Girl's music?
Robert: It is kind of like rocky Led Zeppelin type stuff. We only have done a couple of gigs. We are still trying to figure out its style. It is just a couple of friends of mine and some other people that I have met fairly recently. We juts wanted to start a band for something to do. A lot of my friends are actors and we have so little to do all the time, so instead of just being bored, we wre like, "Why not start a band?" So we did!
